Hi! I'm Caitlin, wife of James and mama of Maxwell. I am a proud USCG wife, former ballerina, photographer, and retail manager. Being a working mom isn't easy, and this blog gets {seriously} neglected now and then {most of the time}, but I keep up with it when I can.

Nursery Update #4

Paint is finished and the dressers are built!

22 Weeks

22 Weeks

Baby size: Around 11 inches, almost 1 lb, about the size of a papaya.
How far along: 22 Weeks.
Total weight gain: 13.5 lbs.
Sleep: I think I'm starting to get a little bit of insomnia!  I'm having a really hard time going to sleep, but I'm fine once I get to sleep.  I'm also waking up really hot in the middle of the night.
Stretch Marks: None so far!
Food cravings: I've been wanting more sugary stuff lately than usual.  But I've been doing a pretty good job of resisting the urge.
Food aversions:  None.
Symptoms: Heartburn is back with a fiery vengeance this week!
Exercise: Still didn't work out at all this week, but I've been so tired from not getting enough sleep that I don't really feel bad about it.
MovementHe's moving a lot now!  Mostly at the end of the day and when I'm laying down in bed at night.
Belly Button: Still an innie...for now.
Gender: Boy.
Nursery Update:  The nursery is all painted!  We did blue and orange for a surfer theme.  We've ordered the crib and glider and are waiting for those to arrive and we bought two dressers that we put together last night.  I'll do a nursery update with pics of the dresser tonight when I get home from work!

Nursery Update #3

We started painting today, and after about 3 hours, we're almost done!  We just have to wait for the paint to dry for a day or two so we can tape off the orange and finish the blue in the two corners where the colors meet.  We chose Valspar's "Tangerine" for the orange and "Pool Party" for the blue.  Next on the list is building the dressers and hopefully the crib and glider will have arrived in the next week or so.

We bought a glider!

21 Weeks

21 Weeks

Baby size: 10.5 inches, 12.7 ounces, about the size of a banana.  Up until this week, his measurements were taken from "crown to rump", but from now until the end they will be taken from head to feet.
How far along: 21 Weeks.
Total weight gain: 11.5 lbs
Sleep: I think I'm getting the hang of sleep.  Although, I think now that I've figured it out, and am sleeping well, his movements are getting strong enough that they're going to be waking me up soon!
Maternity Clothes: Still able to wear a lot of my pre pregnancy tops, but pants are a no go.  I'm wearing all maternity bottoms.
Food cravings: Still no cravings.
Food aversions:  None.
Symptoms: Nothing but mild heartburn and indigestion this week.
Exercise: I've still been awful about working out, but hopefully this week I can find more time to fit it in.  Although, I feel like I say that every week and then my fatigue takes over and I want nothing but sleep in my down time.
MovementI'm finally feeling him move!  A lot this week actually!  It's not super strong yet, but I know that it's him.  I mostly feel him when I'm laying down at night.
Belly Button: Still an innie...for now.
Gender: It's a boy!  And he has a name!  Maxwell Wallace Nichols.
What I’m looking forward to:  Painting and setting up the nursery!  We've bought his dressers and crib and we're waiting for some paint to come back in stock.  Once it does, we'll paint and set up the furniture we've gotten!
What I miss:  Taking HOT baths.  I've had to take pretty much lukewarm baths for the past few months and I really miss a good steaming HOT bath!

Nursery Update #2

I posted the other day that we bought little man's dressers from Target.  That was our first real nursery shopping day.  I figured James would want to spread out all of this baby shopping, but I was wrong!  Yesterday evening I came home to him with the crib pulled up and goes, are you ready to order this?  haha.

So the crib is officially on the way!

Nursery Update

James and I completed the very first nursery shopping trip!  We decided on a dresser/changing table and went ahead and bought it today.  We ended up choosing two 4 drawer dressers from Target that match really well with the crib we've chosen.  They will sit side by side to create the appearance of one large dresser.

It's A.....

I've been up this morning since about 4am because I couldn't sleep due to the excitement of finding out the sex of Baby Nichols.  Stay tuned for a post around 11ish when I get home!

20 Weeks: Halfway There!

20 Weeks

Baby size: 6.5 inches, 10.6 ounces, about the size of a small cantaloupe.  The baby's genitals are fully formed and we will know the secret of boy or girl very soon!
How far along: 20 Weeks.
Total weight gain: 10.5 lbs
Sleep: Sleep and I seem to be getting along these days.  I haven't really even had much trouble with waking up in the middle of the night to pee.
Maternity Clothes: I bought a few tank tops on sale at A Pea in the Pod this week for the summer time.  Really all I need to buy is a few sundresses and shorts for summer and I'm all set.  I have plenty of jeans for work and that's pretty much all I wear outside of work anyway!
Food cravings: Still no cravings.  I do prefer to drink carbonated beverages because they help keep heartburn away, so I got some sparkling water so that I wouldn't be so tempted to drink soda.
Food aversions:  None.
Symptoms: My belly is getting really itchy from the skin stretching out, so I'm thinking I'm going to hit a growth spurt here pretty soon.  I switched from using lotion on my belly to an oil, I love the Mamo Mio Stretch Mark Oil.
Exercise: Bad, bad, bad!  It's been cold and I've been working a lot, so I haven't been walking.  And I haven't had much energy by the time I get home from work to do my videos.  But, on the upside that has given me plenty of room for sleep.  I'm talking: getting home from work at 5:30pm and being in bed by 7pm!
Movement: Still nothing.  I still shouldn't really be concerned because they say it can take until 22-24 weeks to feel anything with your first, but I'm jealous because my friend who's 3 weeks behind me is already feeling hers move!
Belly Button: Still an innie...for now.  I can sometimes pop it all the way out if I try, so I'm sure it's only a matter of time!
Gender: Stay tuned for a post tomorrow!
What I’m looking forward to:  Tomorrow!  I can't wait to know what this little nugget inside me is!
What I miss:  Not needed 12-14 hours of sleep to feel fully rested.  I feel like I get nothing done.

7 Days and counting...

...til we find out what our little nugget is!  I'm so excited, so I thought I would start posting some previews of some nursery inspirations!  Today I'll start with baby boy ideas and tomorrow I'll do a post of baby girl ideas.

Surfer Boy Nursery

I love the colors in this room...the brown, orange and pop of blue.  Although I think we would use a brighter blue.

And I love the modern feel of this one, although it's a little minimalist for my taste.

And this is my inspiration board (from L to R and then top to bottom):
1. Modern Wall Art - Etsy
2. Carter's Slipcover Glider - Babies R Us
3. Valspar Orange Pecan
4. Baby's Dream "Cube" Crib - Babiesdream.com
5. Striped fabric for pillows and crib skirt
6. Palm Trees wall decal - Etsy
7. Valspar Splish Splash
8. Photo of James and I in Hawaii for wall art
9. Valspar Cup of Joe

19 Weeks

19 Weeks

Baby size: 6.0 inches, 8.5 ounces, about the size of a mango.  The baby's arms and legs are now the correct proportions to his/her body!
How far along: 19 Weeks.
Total weight gain: 8.5 lbs.  I've finally hit the 140 mark, crazy.
Sleep: Sleep was awesome until this totally un-awesome cold that I got.  Now I'm lucky to get 4 hours at a time between having to take more cough medicine and re-fill the humidifier.
Maternity Clothes: I'm officially avoiding non-maternity clothes.
Food cravings : Still no cravings, although I've eaten a lot of soup and spaghetti-o's because of being sick and the heat feels good on my sore throat.
Food aversions:  None.
Symptoms: None really this week.  Even heartburn has been on the decline.  Oh, but I have been feeling round ligament pain like crazy.  That must mean the baby is gearing up for some serious growing!
Exercise: I've been walking again because the weather was nicer for part of the week.  It was above 60 yesterday which made for a really nice neighborhood walk.
MovementStill haven't felt anything that I would FOR SURE say is the baby.  But, I have felt some funny feelings that I thought could be movement.
Belly Button: Still an innie, but I can see all the way to the bottom of it, so I'm pretty sure mine will pop at some point.
Gender: Only one more week til we know who's growing in there!
What I’m looking forward to:  The big gender reveal ultrasound next Monday.  It's so hard to believe that it's not going to be a mystery anymore!
What I miss:  Nothing really this week, I'm just so thankful that everything's going so well and I'm not puking my guts out.  There are of course things that I'll miss, but in the grand scheme of things, I don't really think about them that much.

Something that Doctors and pregnancy books don't tell you...

...is that it's perfectly normal for your breasts to start leaking colostrum at 18 weeks.  Yea, definitely didn't know that one until yesterday.

18 Weeks: Happy New Year!

18 Weeks

Baby size: 5.6 inches, 6.7 ounces, about the size of a sweet potato.  The baby is now yawning, hiccuping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking, and swallowing!
How far along: 18 Weeks.
Total weight gain: 7.5 lbs.  Didn't gain anything this week.
Sleep: Starting to get a lot better, but also much more necessary.  On a normal day, I wake up, get ready for an hour, go to work for 8 to 9 hours, come home, sit for an hour, and go to sleep.
Maternity Clothes: My parents came up this weekend, so my mom and I went shopping to get the rest of my maternity clothing.  All I will need now is nursing stuff.
Food cravings : Still no cravings.
Food aversions:  None this week.
Symptoms: Still have to pee all the time, but heartburn hasn't been too bad this week.
Exercise: Still haven't been working out much because I've been so exhausted lately.
Movement: I thought maybe I felt something the other day, but I'm still not sure.  And I haven't felt anything since.
Belly Button: Still an innie, but probably not for long.
Gender: 2 more weeks til we know Blue or Pink!
What I’m looking forward to:  Knowing what we're having so we can start planning the nursery, feeling the baby move, buying all the baby gear that we'll need.
What I miss:  Not feeling so tired all the time.  I feel like I've gotten so boring.
